Interwined Dialect

 “Intertwined dialect”
is a sound installation created by Anna Fainareti Lioka and Hyewon Suk
(Odd Sonorous).
Inspired by the spatial characteristics of the Floating University, where
human and nature meet in the center of Berlin, “Intertwined dialect”
explores the sonic possibilities of symbiosis. By using machine learning
technology, specifically MelGAN_VC, the human voice is transformed in to
the voice of the birds inhabiting around us or even those that are extinct.
These new synthetic and hybrid creatures are placed back at the natural
site of Floating University and draw attention through their own voices,
creating a unique intertwined communication between the human and
the non-human entities.

Aquatic Warbler
Globally threatened. Live in mainland Europe, with a very small
world population of only 13,500-21,000 pairs. 13 cm (5 in.) of
length, and 12 g of weight on average. Similar to Sedge Warbler.
Noticeable white line over the eye. Eats small insects and
spiders. Voice usually lasts for 1-2 seconds, beginning with a
dry, toneless rattle, after a short series of squeaking notes.

Kauai O’o
Native birds of the Hawaiian Islands. Lastly seen in 1950 and
heard/recorded in 1987. 20 cm(7.9 in.) of length on average.
The head, wings, and tail were black. The leg feathers were a
rich golden yellow. Yellow Irises. Ate small insects and fruits.
Voice is usually loud and distinctive with high pitch sounds like
a flflute. Some people still believe that the species may survive
but undetected since it was proclaimed extinct in the 1940s
but rediscovered in 1950.
